Breaking News

Good Morning Teams,

Its official, the FIRST Board of Directors has approved the FRC District Event model. My thanks to the many dedicated volunteers who worked to make the 2009 Michigan District Pilot a success. There’s not enough time to get new district events off the ground for 2010, so this coming year we’ll only have District events in Michigan, but you can apply to host District Events in your area for 2011. All you need are a lot of teams in a limited area, dedicated volunteers with experience hosting FRC Regional Events and a 501 (c) 3 to take on the planning, coordination, execution, procurement and fundraising.

This is an exciting time for FRC. We’ve got the game for 2010 mostly pinned down, we’re working on the scoring, we’re building fields, we’re finalizing contracts for the Regional Events, we’re planning truck routes and we’ve put out bids for trophies, program books, and a host of other items that make the season possible.

Oh, and FRC pre-registration is open. Welcome to the 125 teams who have already committed to the 2010 season.

131 days until the 2010 Kickoff
See you there!

As a member of the Game Design Committee you are possibly the best person to answer a few questions I have. To better improve the performance of the FRC teams in the Wisconsin area I and a few others have been throwing around the idea of holding a sub-scale competition the first week after kickoff. The competition would use VEX sized robots to test and validate team strategies in an environment that is as close to real competition as possible that soon after kickoff. The greatest challenge with this idea is recreating the field in miniature inside of one week.

This brings me to my questions:
Is there any way the committee planning the event could get extra information ahead of time to better plan for the event? (and just so you know everyone on the committee is college age or older, most are FIRST alumni, and all understand the secrecy necessary for FIRST to work like it does)

and is there a more appropriate place we should talk about this? my email is blaud@msoe.edu

Thank you very much for all you do,
Danny Blau, a FIRSTer for life
